Trail Description

The Easter Monday Track (red trail on map) area can be undertaken as an out and back ride or done as a loop incorporating Fosters Lookout. It has a number of mine shafts in the area which are still open (but shouldn't be entered). This page describes a ride out and back from the Garden of St Erth car park. As described the ride is only about 6 km long but it can be readily be added to other rides in the area. My preference for this ride is to start at the Recreation Reserve and follow the Heritage Walk ride to the Garden of St Erth, do the Easter Monday track, head back to garden of St Erth and do the fast downhill run down the bitumen back home where you can get up to the speed limit pretty readily. With the steep run back, every now and again there's an opportunity to overtake a car....

Easter Monday Track is a great fire trail as it's rough enough to make it interesting and provides a fun downhill ride home to reward the initial climb. On top of that it has got some historic interest thrown in for good measure.

You can also shuttle this ride using the New Sultan Road and dropping riders at the start of the track - all downhill from there.

Easter Monday Track from Garden of St Erth Car Park

The following photo gallery has been taken in order from the Garden of St Erth out to the Easter Monday Mine area.

Start at the Garden of St Erth car park and exit on the track heading west. You can follow this fire trail or, if it's not too wet, there is a section of single track immediately off to the left as you head out of the car park. This is very steep but makeable as long as rain hasn't made the surface slippery.

Head west from Garden of St Erth car park and pick up single track on left.

Follow trail up the hill

You will get to a fallen pine. This only recently fell down. It was planted to celebrate Queen Victoria's golden jubilee.

Follow single trail out until you get onto a gravel trail shown coming in from right on third photo.

You will climb until you get to the 3 way intersection in the middle photo. Take the left branch and follow. The Easter Monday Track passes through some nice forest and gradually climbs over a distance up to the mine. The forest in this area is quite nice to ride through.

Follow the track and you will get to a track heading off to left shown in last photo above and first photo below - follow this for a short distance to the end.

Follow trail to end and you will get to one of the adits for the Easter Monday Mine.

Return to the Easter Monday Track and keep climbing.

When you get to the information sign, there is a deep shaft for the Easter Monday Mine off to the left of the track - be careful it is unfenced and isn't obvious until you get close. Last photo above is of the shaft.
